MILANO VFD FUNDRAISER

The Milano Volunteer Fire Department held their annual fundraiser on Saturday and it was another huge success raising over $35,000 through a chili dinner with all the trimmings and both live and silent auctions. There was also live music, as seen in the photo, and a drawing for guns. The ladies’ auxiliary raised $30,000 which they presented at the event.

CELEBRATING A ROCKDALE ARTIST

Some Rockdalians and former Rockdalians were at the opening of local artist Tommy Nienaber at the Link & Pin Art Space in Austin on Saturday. This is what the venue had to say about the artist and his work: “Sculpture, light, sound, and movement combine to welcome you into the world of artist Tommy Nienaber. A scientist by trade, he fell into the healing world of art after a tragic accident. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes and aiding in his burn treatment protocols, Tommy discovered that blocks of stone, metal and wood contained unique personalities that he had the ability to set free. Above are (L-R) Dr. John Mike Weed, Nienaber, Geri and Bob Burnett, and Annette, Amie (King) and Frankie Stone. At left, Nienaber and his girlfriend, Sara Humphries, speaking with a patron. Photos taken at the opening by Matt King and Amie Stone King.
