COMPLAINT FILED AGAINST ROCKDALE OFFICER
Rockdale Police Chief Jerry Meadors is reviewing evidence after a complaint was filed by a member of the public, alleging an officer used "excessive force" during a traffic stop.
Meadors, who did not name the officer, said the complaint was filed by Rockdale resident Brittany Lopez.
It alleges she was thrown to the sidewalk.
Meadors said the officer maintained the subject fell of her own accord after she had been handcuffed in the process of being arrested for refusing to sign a promise to appear in municipal court. She was later taken to court, booked and released.
Meadors said, under such circumstances, the chief investigates and makes a report. Any further action would be based on the findings. "We take this very seriously," he said.
The chief said Rockdale officers don't have body cameras but the incident was captured on the in-car camera. He said it has already been determined no other surveillance camera captured the incident. Meadors said he will review statements from the complainant and officer before making a report.
The officer has continued to remain on duty, Meadors said.
