GOVERNOR'S ORDER SUPERSEDES MILAM ON MASKS
From County Judge Steve Young Thursday afternoon:
New Face Mask Order: Thursday Governor Abbot mandated that we all wear face masks while in commercial space or public buildings or when in an outdoor setting that does not allow for 6 feet of physical distancing. The order goes into effect at 12:01 July 3, 2020. There is a $250 personal penalty for those that do not comply.
The order does not apply to anyone 10 years old or younger, individuals with health conditions that prevent them from wearing a mask or someone who is consuming food or drink.
Those voting or working at polling locations are not required to wear a mask, and masks are also not required for religious services — though face masks are strongly encouraged.
Masks are also not required for those in a swimming pool or lake. People exercising outdoors are also not required to wear a face covering.
The Governor’s mandate supersedes the current Milam County disaster order that mandated face mask coverings and is applicable to all of us in Milam County.
The order is available for viewing at: https://lrl.texas.gov/scanned/govdocs/Greg%20Abbott/2020/GA-29.pdf
According to the governor, the new order is mandatory for counties with more than 20 active cases but county officials with 20 and under may ask to "opt out."
Milam began the day Thursday with 19 active cases. The Reporter has received no communication that the county intends to opt out.
Milam County's mask order, issued one week ago, placed enforcement responsibilities on businesses and entities.
