More than 1,000 people have gotten first-round COVID-19 shots

Last Saturday, the county vaccinated 257 individuals at the former Rockdale Medical Clinic. 244 were second round shots and 13 were first round shots. Thus, Milam County has vaccinated over 1,000 first round individuals and by the end of this week more than 500 will have received their second round.

"This is a great tribute to Milam County government, the Milam County Health Department and most importantly, the many, many civic minded volunteers who have stepped forward to make this vaccination process such a success," Judge Steve Young wrote in his daily email. "This Thursday, we will vaccinate about 320 individuals for their second round in Cameron and on Friday, we will vaccinate about 200 in Rockdale for their first round shots. The clinic on Friday will include Brookshire Brothers, who has 100 doses to use. We appreciate partnering with Brookshire Brothers to get the vaccine administered quickly."

There are over 3,000 people on the waiting list, but the county will get to all who want a vaccination.

"More drugs are coming and we will eventually get everyone in this county a shot. We can assure everyone that we do and will have enough vaccine for all second round shots. If you are in group 1A or group 1B, call 254 697 7000 or email Amy Guillen at aguillen@milamcounty.net and get on the list. When your turn comes, we will call and schedule your appointment," he said.

Once one has called and gotten on the list you can download consent forms by clicking on the following link, complete the form and bring it with you to the clinic: http://www.milamcounty.net/upload/page/9873/COVID-19%20Vaccine%20Second%...

"Our area hospitalization rate has been coming down, but we do not yet have complete figures for the weekend. As soon as we do, I will get that out.  If we stay at 15% or lower for 7 consecutive days, the business occupancy rate will go back to 75% and the bars can reopen," Young said.

The Rockdale One Stop County Tax Assessor/Collector office is closed until further notice due to COVID. The Precinct Two Road and Bridge office in Cameron is also closed due to COVID.

"We thank the Rockdale Hospital District for graciously allowing us to use the former Rockdale Clinic as the building is in pristine condition and clearly the best place in the county for these mass vaccinations," he said.
