Residents respond to homebound vaccination program
There has been a good response to Milam County's effort to provide COVID-19 vaccinations to those who are homebound and unable to get to one of the weekly clinics provided by the county.
"We will provide this new service in conjunction with our military friends," said Milam County Judge Steve Young in an email.
The county is keeping a list and will begin giving shots to those who are homebound in the next couple of weeks. Call 254 697 7000 or email Amy Guillen at aguillen@milamcounty.net.
Thursday there were 587 total shots given and Wednesday there were 477 shots administered for a weekly total of 1,054 shots.
Next week there will be a clinic in Cameron at the VFW Hall on Wednesday and a clinic in Rockdale on Friday.
"We plan to administer about 300 first round and about 500 second round shots," Young said.
"You will be proud to know that since we began vaccinating, Milam County has administered a total of 7,326 total shots; 4,362 first round and 2,971 second round shots. We have held clinics almost every week since January 1, 2021, and we have only just begun. By weeks end we will have administered almost 7,500 shots," he noted.
Overall, in Milam County 8,988 shots have been administered by all vaccinators, including Brookshire Brothers, Wal-Mart, Healthpoint and others with the county doing the lion's share of vaccinating, he added.
"This has been a team effort of a lot of people, including our medical department, emergency management, Texas A&M and the many, many volunteers of Milam County. We cannot thank them enough for the professional, cheerful hard work they have and continue to do," he said.
When you are called to be vaccinated, make sure to have the consent forms completed. There are different forms for the first round shot and different forms for the second round shot. Download the forms by going to one of these websites:
