Seventh death reported due to COVID-19

There has been another COVID related death in Milam County. This is the seventh death to report in the past seven days. This brings the total deaths in the county to 25 since the pandemic started. On December 28, 2021 there were 11 deaths in the county and now has doubled t in less than 30 days.

"We can solve this problem: wear a mask, keep your distance, wash your hands and above all, get vaccinated. The vaccine is safe and 95% effective. A special thanks to all of you who are doing your part to comply," County Judge Steve Young said in a email.

The county will administer 300 first round doses at the former Cameron hospital located at 806 N. Crocket on Thursday from 9 a.m. to– 3 p.m. This will be done by appointment only. The first 300 people on the waiting list for the shots will get calls. If you are called,  go to http://www.milamcounty.net/page/milam.COVID19 and download the three required consent forms: COVID-19 consent form; Adult Immtrac consent form; and Immtrac 3 Immunization Registry Retention Consent form; complete the forms and bring the completed forms to the vaccination clinic. This will save a lot of time. However, there will be forms available at the vaccination site.

The county will continue to add people to the COVID vaccination waiting list. Call 254 697 7000 or email Amy Guillen at aguillen@milamcounty.net to get on the list. Once on the list, you will call to schedule your appointment, when it is your turn. Right now there are almost 2,600 people on the list, but do not let that deter you from getting on the list. In the next two weeks the county will make a big dent in this list.

Tuesday 28 individuals were tested in Thorndale with seven positive results. Overall, there have been 2,833 individuals tested with 831 positive infections which is a 29% positivity rate. Today's testing is in Milano at the Milano VFD from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.   Milam County residents with COVID symptoms can get a free antigen test.

"Our numbers have been coming down as we now have 60 active cases down seven from yesterday. We hope the trend continues. Our hospital threshold came down a little today as well from 20.19% to 19.29%. If we get under 15% for 7 consecutive days, the business occupancy rate can return to 75% and the bars can reopen," Young said.
