Vaccination approved for those at least 12 years old

Children at least 12 years old are now eligible for vaccinations, after the CDC  approved the Pfizer vaccine for younger people. Fully vaccinated children do not have to quarantine when exposed to an infected person. 

The county is now has 31.4% of Milam County residents fully vaccinated. About 9.5% of the county has viral immunity (prior confirmed infection) which means that 40.9% of the county has herd immunity. About 7,512 individuals have had at least one shot and 6,186 have had both shots. About 59% of those over 65 have been fully vaccinated, County Judge Steve Young reported in his daily email.

On Friday, the county will vaccinate at the Buckholts Community Center in downtown Buckholts from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. We will take walk-ins or an appointment can be made by calling 254-697-7000.

THE NUMBERS—COVID-19 cases this week have been measured Wednesday to Tuesday.

• Cumulative cases – 1,445, up 5 from 1,440.

• Active cases (PCR test) – 7, no change.

• Confirmed (antigen) cases – 1,091, up 2 from 1,089. 

• Hospitalized – 4, down 1.

• Deaths – 48, no change.
