There was a tall truck, new trucks and old trucks at the first 2020 Apache Pass Barbecue Cookoff and Car Show last weekend. In fact, it was an old—but looking all shiny and new—orange Chevrolet Apache pickup that was the judges’ choice for best of show honors.

The American Legion Car lye Post 358 honored retiring editor Mike Brown at his retirement party at the Kay Theatre on Thursday. Post Commander James McKimmey presented the certificate to Brown who had worked at The Rockdale Reporter for 46 years as a sportswriter, reporter and finally as editor. The Legion’s Facebook page said, “The Rockdale community lost a great asset with the retirement of Mike Brown from The Rockdale Reporter. Thank you Mike, enjoy retirement because you earned it.”
