Billie Jean Roe, 84, of Rock-dale died Friday, June 8, 2018, in Caldwell.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 14, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Pastor Steve Ammons officiating. Burial will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Roe was born May 14, 1934, in Jasper County to Tolbert and Dora (Wigley) Ellis.
She married Ralph Roe on Sept. 8, 1951, in Jasper.
She graduated from Jasper High School where she was the captain of the girl’s district champion basketball team her senior year.
Mrs. Roe was a Rockdale resident for the past 54 years after moving here from Somerville.
She was a special education teacher at Rockdale ISD for over 30 years before retiring in 2003.
She was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church for over 50 years.
Mrs. Roe enjoyed bowling, square dancing, spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren play sports.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Roe; a son, James Robert “Jay Bob” Roe; a granddaughter, Kimberly Lynn Roe; her parents, Tolbert and Dora Ellis; two brothers, Tolbert Lee Ellis and George Ellis; and three sisters, Faye McCauley, Bobbie Day and Patsy Fults.
Survivors are two sons, Charles Wayne Roe and wife Cindy of Macon, Georgia, Richard Ralph Roe and wife Brenda of Rockdale; six grandchildren, Dustin Roe, April Frailey, Kelly Jahnke, Donnie Roe, Chelsea Williams and Kristi Martin; 11 great-grandchildren, Lexy Roe, Tylor Frailey, Sierra Frailey, Asher Roe, Aiden Roe, Arik Roe, Garrett Jahnke, Preston Titus, Jose Abila, Rosemary Abila and Easton Abila; three great-great-grandchildren, Jose Abila Jr., Jacy Abila and Emilia-no Solis; a brother, Jim Ellis and wife Jan of Bryan; and special longtime family member, Paul Johnson of Rockdale.
Pallbearers will be Philip Proctor, Paul Johnson, Lee Johnson, Danny Frailey, Tylor Frailey and Chad Jahnke. Honorary pallbearer is Easton Abila.
