Lawson
Doris Lawson, 96, of Bartlett, formerly of Rock-dale and Taylor, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, at Will-O-Bell Nursing Home in Bartlett.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Rockdale with Rev. John Seaton and Chaplain Bruce Mercer officiating. Burial will be at Sharp Cemetery in Sharp.
Visitation is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.
Mrs. Lawson was born Dec. 12, 1921, in Sharp to Luke and Woody (Lewis) Modesette.
She was a graduate of Sharp High School as the class valedictorian.
On Aug. 5, 1945, she married Roland Lawson Jr. in Rockdale. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2015.
Mrs. Lawson was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Rock-dale for many years, serving as Sunday school teacher and as a member of the choir.
She worked as a secretary with Texas State Department of Public Welfare for 30 years.
Mrs. Lawson enjoyed working in the yard and was a member of the Crown Garden Club in Rockdale.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Lawson Jr. on June 5, 2016; a brother, Elbert Lewis Modesette; six sisters, Willie Modesette Schwarz, Mable Modesette Charles, Theda Modesette Albrecht, Edith Modesette Dittmar, Edath Modesette Loden and Mary Alice Modesette Donald; and her parents.
Survivors are her two daughters, Sharon and Bobby Betak, Donna and Crespin Valdez, all of Taylor; and five grandchildren, Ricky Jones and wife Regina, Lori Nira and husband Andrew, Amy Betak, Lance Valdez and wife Courtney, Brent Valdez and wife Vannessa; also, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
