Simpson

Addie Faye Hobson Simpson went to be with Jesus on Oct. 27, 2018, from the Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

Faye was born in Glen Rose on Dec. 25, 1922. She was the daughter of Henry Hob-son and Mollie Harvey Hob-son.

Faye graduated from Cleburne High School and attended Mary Hardin-Baylor College in Belton. While there she majored in speech and worked in the chemistry laboratory for Dr. Amy Le Vaconte.

A local preacher, Rev. Delmar D. Simpson was called to preach a revival in another town. Faye followed the call of Christ and filled the local pulpit for Rev. Simpson in his absence. They were later married on June 11, 1944, at Field Street Baptist Church in Cleburne.

Faye served her Lord and Savior in each of the churches where her husband pastored: church secretary, treasurer, Women’s Missionary Union officer, Children’s ministries, Sunday School teacher, pianist for nursing home ministries and several small churches, teacher of Bible Study courses, and many other jobs as the need arose in those churches.

She was always mission minded. Her favorite Bible verses were Matthew 28:19-20: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

Faye served her Lord in service to His church while raising their four children. In the course of Christian service and raising children, she committed to memory great portions of scripture and many, many poems from the Child Craft series of children’s books.

Just a few months before her death, Faye would go from her home to help with nursing home services. At these services Faye would faithfully recite scripture to those gathered for the service.

She is survived by her children: Elaine Simpson of Rockdale, Lynette Simpson Fischer and her husband Bob of Bryan, Nathan Glenn Simpson and his wife Ruth of Houston, and by Lois Simpson Parker and her husband C.W. of Abilene.

Faye is also survived by grandchildren: Preston Fischer and wife Erica, David Simpson, Rachel Parker McEniry and husband Matthew, Wayne Parker and wife Kyla, and Natalie Parker Vaughn and husband Clay.

She was blessed with four great-grandchildren: Patrick Robert Fischer, Ian Fischer, Caroline Fischer, and Harrison Vaughn.

Faye was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Rev. Delmar D. Simpson and her grandson Patrick Ernest Fischer.

Also preceding her in death are her parents, two brothers, Jack and Lynn Hobson, and one sister, Fern Bennett.

Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Rockdale with Rev. Matt Higginbotham of First Baptist officiating. Burial will be at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rock-dale.

Visitation will also be Thursday at First Baptist Church from 1 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Rockdale or to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering of the Southern Baptist Convention through the Rock-dale Church.
