Herzer

Edgar Louis “Bob” Herzer, 87, of Georgetown, formerly of Rockdale, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018, in Georgetown. He was a resident at Tiffin House Assisted Living & Memory Care in Georgetown.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 2, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rock-dale. Burial was at McDade Cemetery in McDade.

Mr. Herzer was born Dec. 19, 1930, on the Herzer farm near Coupland to Edgar Christian and Emma (Kastner) Herzer.

He spent most of his youth in McDade. He enjoyed building things and seeing how things worked, especially cars.

Mr. Herzer worked as a mechanic in a garage before joining the U.S. Army in 1952 at the age of 21. He served at Fort Sheridan in Chicago, Illinois, until his honorable discharge in 1954. He then began working at Alcoa in Rockdale in 1955, retiring in 1993.

After Edgar’s discharge from the Army, he moved back to Texas, met and married his wife, Dorothy Ann Peschke on Sept. 8, 1956, in Giddings. They lived in Rockdale until 2016 when they moved to Tiffin House in Georgetown.

Mr. Herzer was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Rockdale.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillia Irene Meyer and Doris Ann Barre.

Survivors are his wife, Dorothy; a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Kenneth Koscielniak; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Amy Herzer; and his grandchildren, Sarah Herzer and Dylan Herzer; as well as, many nieces and nephews.
