James (Jim) Gordon Perry, 80, died Jan. 3, 2019, after a short illness in Round Rock hospital with his family by his side.

In honoring his wishes, he will be cremated, followed by a memorial service at a later date.

Mr. Perry was born in 1938 in Raymondville. He moved as an infant with his parents to Williamson County, then to Austin, where he graduated from McCallum High School and attended the University of Texas for two years, playing on the Longhorn basketball team.

He married Mary Katherine Bradley of Round Rock in 1960.

Mr. Perry worked for the Austin Police Department for five years, then for many years was in the automotive business doing mechanical repairs, as well as paint and body car repairs, selling automotive parts and tires in Austin and Round Rock, retiring in 2003.

He enjoyed family gatherings and telling tall tales of his experiences.

Mr. Perry was a member of the Austin Road Riders Motorcycle Club for many years and traveled with his wife all over the U.S.

Mr. Perry moved to Round Rock from Austin, resided there for 50 years, then moved to Rockdale, where he lived for almost four years.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Round Rock and Rockdale. He accepted Christ and was baptized in 2011 at the age of 73.

Mr. Perry was preceded in death by his parents, J.L. and Lora Ruth King Perry of Austin; his grandparents, 0.0. and Josie Perry of Liberty Hill, Dock and Effie King of Hutto; also, several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Survivors are his wife of 58 years; two sons, Bobby L. Perry of Rockdale, Brian M. Perry of Navasota; three daughters, Cindy R. Stearns and her significant other Tom Matte of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Julie A. Goman and husband Howard of Brenham, Kathy S. Gonzalez of Manor; two sisters, Beverly J. Matocha of Conroe, Shirley R. Brady of Crestview, Florida; a sister-in-law, Marlene Bradley of Austin; an uncle, Aaron King of Milano; and a special cousin, Michael C. King of Rockdale; also, 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
