Funeral services for Charlyne Ann McDaniel, 78, of Thorn-dale were held Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Mark Porterfield officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Retreat Cemetery near Thorndale.

Mrs. McDaniel died Wednesday, Jan. 9, at her home.

She was born July 24, 1940, in Port Arthur to Willis and Berdie Gambrell.

She was a graduate of Thorn-dale High School Class of 1958.

Mrs. McDaniel was a member of Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church.

She married Monty O. McDaniel and was the founder of Charlyne’s Pound Puppies, a nonprofit animal rescue, operated the past 33 years.

Mrs. McDaniel was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Berta Jean Woelfel; her mother and father-in-law, James and Casner McDaniel; and a brother-in-law, Dick McDaniel.

Survivors are her husband, Monty O. McDaniel of Thorndale; daughters, Sharon K. McDaniel and wife Beth M. Reynolds of Thorndale, Monica L. Green and husband Claude of Altavista, Virginia; a brother, Darrell Gambrell of wife Ruby of Thorn-dale; two sisters-in-law, Deloris Lightsey and Nancy McDaniel, both of Rockdale; a brother-in-law, Danny McDaniel and wife Sheila of Kyle; five grandchildren, John Carter, Ryan Ganson, Kelsey Green, Gabrielle Green and Colton Green; and three great-grandchildren, Logan Carter, Amber Rose Carter and Lane Carter; also, a number of nieces, nephews and pets, including her special dog companion “Sodie.”
