Nickels
Michael Albert Nickels, 69, of Cameron died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2020.
A graveside service will be held a 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at Glenrest Cemetery in Big Lake, with Pastor Aaron Gregory officiating.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.
Mr. Nickels was born in Rockdale on Feb. 27, 1951, to George J “Buck” and Sadie Raye Blackmon Nickels.
He was baptized at age 8 in Big Lake, where he was raised.
Mr. Nickels worked all of his life, mostly in the oil field, behind the wheel of a sand or water truck. He also did ranch work.
He enjoyed sharing stories over coffee at truck stops and around the table at home.
His hobbies were cooking, story-telling and fishing.
Mr. Nickels was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Diane Box; and a son, Timothy.
Survivors are a brother, Larry Nickels and wife Gaye of Red Oak; two sisters, Nancy and husband Johnny Leftwich of Cameron, and Sandra Gilbert of College Station; two daughters Brandi and husband Gerry Petree of Granbury, and Betheny of San Angelo; a son, Jason and wife Shaela Nickels of Academy; his grandchildren, Timothy, Ryan, Brooke, Tristin, Alonna, Jordan, Kelsey, Nathan and Cheyenne; his great-grandchildren, Addilyn, Aschten, Madden, Duke, Tess,and Meredith; and many nieces and nephews; also, fishing buddies, Johnny and Richard; coffee buddies Bobby and Blain; caretakers Lauryn, Kyli, Diane and Nancy; and hospice nurses Tami and Stacy.
