Becker

Robert Roy Becker, 95, of Rockdale died Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, at Argent Court Assisted Living in Bastrop.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 18, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Deacon Gus Coelho officiating. Burial was at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Burnet, with Pastor David Wilman officiating. Military honors were provided by Lake Highland Honor Guard.

Mr. Becker was born March 10, 1925, in Thorndale to George and Frieda (Schwartz) Becker.

He married Barbara Ann Norwood on Aug. 27, 1960, in Georgetown.

Mr. Becker was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a crane operator for Alcoa, retiring after 35 years.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Rockdale.

Mr. Becker enjoyed hunting, golfing, drinking coffee at McDonald’s and was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Becker; his parents, George and Frieda (Schwartz) Becker; four brothers, Erwin Becker, Gilbert Becker, Curtis Becker and James Becker; and three sisters, Helen Boatright, Bernice Weise and Ruby Krause.

Survivors are a son, Randall Becker and wife Janice of Giddings; a daughter, Gayle Merka and husband Mike of Cedar Creek; his grandchildren, Ashley and Megan Becker of Giddings, Kristine and Dalton Merka of Cedar Creek; and a sister, Ila Mae Jansky of Taylor; also, a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Neil Weise, Steve Walton, Dalton Merka, Lin Perry, Lee Jenkins and Don Jansky.

Honorary pallbearers were Ashley Becker, Megan Becker, Kristine Merka and his coffee drinking friends from McDonald’s.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice.
