COVID-19 death toll now at 33 in county

The COVID-19 death total is now 33 with the fourth death reported Friday.

The active cases are at 136.

"Our area hospitalization rate today was 12.07%.  This is day four of seven where our rate has been under 15%. If we stay at 15% or lower for 7 consecutive days, the business occupancy rate will go back to 75% and the bars can reopen," Milam County Judge Steve Young said.

COVID has also closed the Rockdale One Stop County Tax Assessor/Collector office until further notice and The Precinct Two Road and Bridge office in Cameron is also closed due to COVID.

On February 11, the county will provide about 320 second round shots to those individuals that received first round shots on Jan. 11 and 14. This will be done at the former Cameron hospital. On Feb 12, the county will provide about 150 first round shots and assist Brookshire Brothers with an additional 100 first round shots. This will be done in Rockdale at the former Rockdale Clinic.

All clinics are done by appointment only. This is for the convenience and safety of those getting shots and those giving the shots. If you are called to be vaccinated, please download the applicable consent form, complete the document and bring it with you to the clinic. The form can be downloaded at: http://www.milamcounty.net/upload/page/9873/COVID-19%20Vaccine%20Second%...

"We thank the Rockdale Hospital District for graciously allowing us to use the former Rockdale Clinic as the building is in pristine condition and clearly the best place in the County for these mass vaccinations. We thank all of our wonderful volunteers who have so kindly offered to help with this most important task," Young wrote in his email. "We will continue with our COVID vaccination waiting list. Please call 254 697 7000 or email Amy Guillen at aguillen@milamcounty.net and we will get you on the list. Once on the list, we will call to schedule your appointment, when it is your turn. This is the best chance we have of winning this battle".
