Young declares county in state of emergency

County Judge Steve Young has signed an order declaring Milam County in a state of emergency. Gov. Greg Abbott declared a state of emergency for all 254 counties of the state due to the extreme historic cold weather. President Joe Biden on Sunday ordered federal assistance to supplement state and local response efforts due to the emergency conditions resulting from a severe winter storm.

In the county declaration, Young noted that Milam County has experienced over 176 hours of below freezing temperatures as of 6 a.m. Thursday, and numerous power outages and water shortages that have existed since Friday due to the freezing weather.
