Hirt

TAYLOR—James Melvin Hirt passed from this earthly life, May 28, 2021, at the age of 91 years, 9 months, 13 days.

Melvin was born to parents, Elsie and Emil Hirt at Gay Hill on Aug. 15, 1929.

After graduating from Thorndale High, Melvin joined the Army during the Korean conflict and served in Germany. After returning home, he started his career with TPL, IGC and retired with TXU.

Melvin married Betty Joyce Rodenbeck on Oct. 7, 1957, at St. John Lutheran Church in Detmold. Their marriage covered 63 years, 7 months, and 21 days. They were blessed with two children, Rex Hirt and wife Toby of Rosco, and Wendy Hirt of Thorndale.

Melvin was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, Thorndale and Detmold.

For many years he was active (head of) with Thorndale Cares, a community program supporting those in need. He enjoyed many years supporting the FFA and 4-H programs at Thorndale schools while Wendy and Rex were involved in showing livestock.

Melvin is survived by his loving wife, Betty; son Rex and daughter Wendy; two grandsons Hadley Hirt and Clay Hirt, both of Houston; and a brother, Robert Hirt of Taylor; also, numerous nieces and nephews
