Hoffmeyer

Ina Genelle Dunn Hoffmeyer passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 6:50 a.m. Nell had reached the age of 91 years and 7 months when God called her to her Heavenly home.

She had been a member of First Baptist Church for nearly 70 years, after being saved at age 19.

She was one of seven children born to Norris Waid Dunn and Ora Lee (Yates) Dunn, on Dec. 29, 1930, in Prairie Hill, Limestone County.

She first saw Ernest walking in town as she rode the bus home from school and mentioned to her friend, “I’d like to date that good looking guy!”

Sometime later, they did go on a date, which led to love and eventually a wedding on Feb. 14, 1948, for Nell and Ernest Hoffmeyer in a small town, Tehuacana, at the Westminster College Chapel. All of which was arranged by her older brother, Johnny Dunn, and a couple of friends.

What ensued was a full life of nearly 75 years of love and caring deeply for one another and their family.

Nell is survived by her loving husband, Ernest; daughters Ernestine (Hoffmeyer) Betchan and husband Donnie Ray Betchan of Rockdale, Sheila Kay (Hoffmeyer) Bishop and husband Ronny Bishop of Taylor; sister Alice Veneda (Dunn) Hyde of Waco; brother Bobby Jack Dunn and wife Jeanette Dunn of Mineral Wells; grandchildren Bradley Don Betchan and Lauren Betchan of Spring, Julie Deanne (Betchan) Pahl and Stephen Pahl of Georgetown, Shannon Ray Bishop and Teresa Bishop of Thorndale and Brandon Bishop of Taylor; and great-grandchildren Presley Ray Pahl, Tirzah Leigh Betchan, Keziah Ruth Betchan, Caroline Marie Pahl, Otto Karl Betchan, Ernest Larz Betchan and Kaiser Jett Betchan.

Also, many nieces and nephews survive Aunt Nell.

Nell was preceded in death by her infant son, Larry Wayne Hoffmeyer; sister Mamie Lee (Dunn) Whatley; brothers Norris Waid “Dub” Dunn Jr., Johnny Carl Dunn, Clifford Gene “Dink” Dunn; brothers-in-law Roy Hyde, Rayford Whatley; sisters-in-law Margaret Dunn, JoDenne Dunn, Hazel Dunn and Ann Dunn.

She had many friends, but there was one special group of ladies—Estell, Alma, Nadine, Bonnie and Joan—who gathered often for a day of card games, lunch and laughter.

Much time was spent with the grandchildren, whether in a boat, on the beach, baking chocolate chip cookies, reading a Bible story and explaining what salvation meant in her life. She deeply loved each one and prayed daily over all of them without condition or prejudice.

Her love knew no bounds when it came to those three boys and one little girl, who called her MaMa! Whether it involved football games, basketball games, graduations or holidays, she was one proud MaMa and loved to watch those home runs, drill team routines, band concerts, 3-point goals, sliding into second base, and pole vaulting. No matter the event, she was on the sideline watching and cheering them on.

All of these events were shared with her supportive, loving husband of nearly 75 years, our Dad and her sweetheart, Ernest!

Funeral services for Nell will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022, at First Baptist Church in Rockdale with Pastor Morris Cook and Pastor Matt Higginbotham officiating. Burial will follow in I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour before service time at the church.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 240 Green St., Rockdale, TX 76567.
