Butts
THORNDALE— Clemma Edwina Hood Butts was born Sept. 30, 1929, in Wichita Falls to Ivan E. and Ursule Hood.
Edwina, aka “Tinker,”passed away peacefully Aug. 3, 2022, while in her residence at S. P. J. S.T Assisted Living in Taylor.
Edwinagrew up in Midland, graduating from Midland High School in 1946. She attended Texas Women’s University (formally TSCW) in Denton and then transferred to the University of Texas at Austin, and was a proud member of the Chi Omega Sorority.
Following college, she returned to Midland/Odessa area and worked for Gulf Oil Corp.
A mutual friend introduced her to Newton Butts on a blind date, and they married on Nov. 27, 1960. Newton and Edwina resided in Thorndale for the next 60 years before moving to S.P.J.S.T. Assisted Living in Taylor in 2021.
Tinker was an active member of Eastern Star and Bible Study Fellowship.
She par ticipated and enjoyed many social activities and games during her life, including playing golf, bridge, and 42.
She served as a volunteer with the Hospital Auxiliary at Taylor Hospital in the 1970s.
Words cannot express how she loved visiting her father and uncle’s home and farm near Morgantown, Kentucky. She cherished childhoodmemories through to her last visit Thanksgiving 2021.
Tinker is survived by her husband, Newton; a daughter, Lisa Lennon and husband Jeff of Austin, and her son, Todd Butts and wife Laura; and two grandchildren, Jarrod and Elizabeth of Thorndale.
She is also survived by her brother, Joe Tom Hood and wife Kay of Dallas; her sister, Suzanne and husband Jerry of Montgomery; her nephews, Tommy Hood and wife Sha of Morgantown, Kentucky, David Hood of Fort Worth, Bobby Hood of Dallas, Jerry Ward and wife Kim, and Greg Ward, also of Montgomery; and her nieces, Carolyn Kolka and husband Tom of Grosse Isle, Michigan, Donna Westermann and husband Phil of Lake Forest, California, Nell Stokes and husband Greg of Yorba Linda, California.
She was also loved and treasured as a great aunt by many nephews and nieces.
Tinker was a devoted, loving Christian wife, mother, grandmother and aunt.
Edwina and Newton faithfully attended and served as giving members of the First Baptist Church in Thorndale for 60 years.
She will be greatly missed by all of us, but we are blessed by her long life, and is now with our Lord.
