Mr. Velasquez

Velasquez

On Sunday, Aug. 21, 2022, Alfredo Rosas Velasquez (known to his family as “Pito”) went to be with Jesus and other beloved family members.

A visitation and prayer service will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, and funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2. Officiants will be Pastors Mike Zapata and Irie Cuevas. All services will be held at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery.

Alfredo was born on June 24, 1989, in Temple, to Alfredo Garcia Velasquez and Thelma Rosas Velasquez.

He was raised in Marlin and attended Marlin ISD, as well as online classes at Ohio State, where he made the dean’s list.

Alfredo worked for ARS/ Advanced Rail Systems out of Riesel, as a computer aided draftsman and project manager. He loved his job and coworkers whom he considered family.

Alfredo was a handsome and polite young man known for his beautiful smile, generosity, conciliation and positive thinking. He was always ready to give words of encouragement with a positive attitude.

He never met a stranger and had a servant’s heart, ready to help anyone in need. He loved his family and took good care of his mom. He was a loving son, nephew, cousin and friend to so many and his loss will be greatly felt.

Throughout his life he faced many obstacles, particularly with his health, but he always fought and these last two years were no different. He was known to always say “I got this” or “I got you,” especially to his mom, and while we will no longer hear him say this, we are certain that God now tells us, “I got him.”

Alfredo was preceded in death by his father, Alfredo Garcia Velasquez; his maternal grandfather, Rev. Maximino Rosas Sr.; maternal great- grandmother, Paula Arguello Rosas; maternal great-grandfather, Francisco S. Davila Sr.; and paternal grandparents, Samuel and Petra Velasquez.

Survivors are his loving mother, Thelma Rosas Velasquez; maternal grandmother, Manuela Davila Rosas; and several loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
