Virginia Garza Lopez

HOUSTON—Virginia Garza Lopez, 86, of Houston, passed away Sept. 19, 2022, at home su r rounded by her children.

Virginia was born May 2, 1936, in Rockdale, to parents Candelario and Eloise Garza. She was quite fierce on a slot machine and an avid Elvis fan. She said she was able to see him in concert in her younger years and was not bashful in the fact that she was one of the screamers.

She loved ever yone unconditionally and gave to those in need. Her kindness was inspiring.

Virginia’s heart was full of joy for her family, whom she loved so dearly. God blessed us when he brought this woman into our lives.

We will tell her stories and remind others of the strength she possessed throughout her life. It is our time to mourn her loss but also celebrate the wonderful person that she was.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lopez; a son, John Rene Lopez; two brothers, Louis Garza and Lawrence Garza; and a great-grandchild, Rhett.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sylvia Lopez; two sons, Edward Lopez and wife Karen, Ronald Lopez and wife Annette; her grandchildren, Amy, Amanda, Ashley, Mark, Ryan and Haley; her great-grandchildren, Aiden, Connor, Weston, Owen and Austin; and a brother, Alec James.

A v i sitat ion was to be held from 10 a.m. to 12-noon Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway in Houston.

The funeral ser v ice was set begin at 12-noon, with interment to follow at Brookside Memorial Park.

In lieu of f lowers, the family asks that any contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
