Adams

Billy Joe Adams went home to be with his Lord on Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, following a long illness.

He was born in Taylor on March 1, 1951.

He grew up in the Salty community and graduated from Thorndale High School, where he excelled at football, baseball and track.

He was an avid outdoorsman, especially when sports were involved. He was a dedicated Texas Longhorn fan, and it could be said that he bled orange.

Billy and Judie Marie Munoz were wed in Cameron on Nov. 23, 1977. They were blessed with 45 years of a loving and happy marriage and lived in Taylor for the past 43 years.

Billy was an accomplished carpenter and master wood craftsman. Over the years he was a dump truck driver, construction worker, bartender, maintenance man and custom home builder. He could fix just about anything.

He was also a pit master when it came to cooking barbecue, especially brisket, as many family reunion attendees will testify.

He served as a caregiver for his parents and Judie’s parents on many occasions. He also played Santa Claus for family events. He was “Uncle Billy” to four generations of nephews and nieces or the “Big A” to some.

Billy was preceded in death by his father, P.G. “Jake” Adams; his mother, Mona Caffey Adams; and his big sister, Bonnie Jean Adams Cary.

He is survived by his wife, Judie Munoz Adams of Taylor; his sisters, Barbara Adams McDaniel of Thorndale, Martha Adams Lehman of Thorndale, Margaret Adams Von Gonten (husband Henry) of Rockdale, Wanda Adams Walther of Elgin; and a brother, Preston Adams (wife Janet Palm Adams) of Thorndale; also, many nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, with a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his name to your favorite charity.

Arrangements by Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home, P.O. Drawer 1417, Rockdale, TX 76567, 512-446-5454.
