Margo Susan Gilless

Margo Susan Gilless (née Duncum), of Houston and Rockdale, sadly left us on Feb. 23, 2023, following a battle with cancer.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Rockdale.

Margo was born in Austin, April 26, 1946, to William C. Duncum and Anna Rosen Duncum.

Margo graduated from William B. Travis High School in Austin and then went on to earn her BS in education from Southwest Texas State College, where she met Clyde.

After graduating in 1968, they lived in San Antonio before moving to California, Louisiana, and Guam, while Clyde served in the US Air Force.

In 1975, they moved to Houston to support his medical career, where they lived for over 30 years. Spanning that time, Margo was an elementary school teacher in Austin, San Antonio, Aldine and Houston.

Margo’s legacy was kindness, based in her Christian faith. She was active in the United Methodist Church, notably with Spring Woods in Houston and St. John’s in Rockdale.

She sought to impact others by leading numerous Bible studies and Sunday School classes, was a worship member for the United Methodist Women, a lay leader at St. John’s, and a lay speaker for the Texas Annual Conference.

Margo was very active in the Houston area Walk to Emmaus, an organization that supports spiritual growth in the Christian community.

Margo loved traveling, with most focus on trips to the Holy Land.

Margo supported the greater community through work with the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, the Rockdale Chamber Ambassadors and the Linwood Acres Garden Club. She contributed talents in art, writing and friendliness to these groups and many other causes.

She was predeceased by the love of her life, husband Clyde Gilless Jr.

She is survived by her sister, Debra Jackson (Andy); sons Chad Gilless (Sunny) and Eric Gilless (Kim); and grandsons Garner Gilless and Smith Gilless.

The family wishes to thank Natalie Noack and Maryam Rouhi for their invaluable support of Margo and the family in Margo’s fi nal days. Natalie and Maryam are angels.
