LEWISVILLE—Roger Hashem Jr., 81, of Lewisville, died Thursday, March 2, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Ser v ic e s will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 10, at Doubletree Ranch Park in Highland Village.
Mr. Hashem was born in Houston on Nov. 13, 1941.
He married Marie Leach on April 9, 1964.
Mr. Hashem graduated from Smiley High School in Houston and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from East Texas Baptist College and a Master of Education from Prairie View A&M.
He was a teacher, girls track coach and high school principal at Milano High School in Milano for many years.
Mr. Hashem also served four terms as mayor of Milano and enjoyed serving his community.
He was elected Milam County Judge, serving from 1991 to 1998, and he helped initiate the renovations of the Milam County Courthouse.
Mr. Hashem also was instrumental with the Rockdale Regional Juvenile Justice Center, which was later named for him.
After his time as judge, he returned to education and served as superintendent of Star ISD in Star before he retired in 2008.
Mr. Hashem was preceded in death by his parents, Roger Hashem Sr. and Elvira Hernandez Hashem; a son, David Hashem; a sister, Alice Leija; and three brothers, Benjamin Balerio, Daniel Balerio and Henry Balerio.
Survivors are his wife, Marie Hashem; his children, daughter Susan Paltrineri and husband Albert, son John Hashem and wife Erika, daughter Karen Hillard, and daughter Ann Kraft and husband Curtis; and a sister, Esther Philan; also, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
