Geraldine “Gerri” Waters

Long-time Rockdale resident Geraldine “Gerri” Waters left to see her Lord on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

Gerri was born June 15, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan.

She was 90 years old at her passing. There are no services planned.

Gerri moved to Rockdale as a teenager with her mother.

She began working at Richards Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s aide when it was still in the old building downtown. She worked with Dr. Richards, Dr. Young and all of the old time physicians. She came to work at the “new hospital” when it opened on Brazos Street in 1975.

She was a dedicated employee and was a great asset to all who worked with her. She rarely took a day off and didn’t want to retire when she did at the age of 85 in 2018. She worked night shift for 65 years.

She trained many young aides and quite a few nurses on how to take care of the patients. She was excellent at her job.

Gerri was the youngest child of seven. She was a twin.

She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings.

Survivors are a son, Michael Waters of Rockdale, and close friends Shawn and Barbara McNiel, also of Rockdale.

She is also survived by a cousin, Charles (June) Crabb of Pennsylvania and extended family who remain in Michigan.
