Burrough
Mr. Burrough
Frank Burrough Jr. was born on April 6, 1932, to Frank and Inez (Morton) Burrough.
Frank, or Jr. as he was fondly called, was bor n in the Black Jack community of Burleson County and grew up a country boy.
Frank learned his love for music from his dad and at 16 was playing guitar along side him in a band called the Lone Star Ramblers.
Frank was an avid fisherman and hunter. He later passed this love onto his sons and grandsons.
Frank was one of the “nifty 50” graduating from Rockdale High School in 1950.
He joined the United States Army on Feb. 19, 1953, and was in the Second Armored Division, Hell on Wheels. He was honorably discharged at the rank of corporal on Sept. 20, 1961.
On April 17, 1954, Frank married the love of his life, Evelyn Burrough. Evelyn always said the first thing she noticed about him was his piercing blue eyes.
To this union of more than 69 years, four children were born: Mike, Ronnie, Keith and Diana.
Frank and Evelyn spent most of their married life in Rockdale.
Frank worked for 34 years as a mechanic at the Industrial Generating Co. Frank was often known as the “vacuum cleaner man” as he sold and maintained Electrolux vacuum cleaners for many years.
Frank always had the gift for gab and would talk to anyone who would listen. He loved telling jokes and sometimes had to be reminded that there are some just better not told in front of everyone.
Frank had a sharp mind and even at 92, knew the birthdays of all his kids, grandkids and even great-grandkids. He loved his family very much! He took every opportunity to brag about them as he was so proud of every single one of them.
For the past 17 months, Frank had been a resident at Rockdale Estates & Rehabilitation. His huge smile, friendly attitude, and sparkling blue eyes quickly made him a favorite with the employees and residents. Frank enjoyed his trips outside the nursing home and was always ready to eat some fried chicken.
Frank was admitted to Round Rock Medical Center on Wednesday, July 10, and was still cracking jokes to the nurses until his condition worsened.
Anyone that knew Frank well knew he never let anything and I do mean anything come between him and his meals. No matter what was going on, he always ate at 8, 12 and 5.
Frank did it his way and left this earth on Thursday, July 18, 2024, shortly before noon so he could enjoy his first fried chicken lunch in Heaven.
Frank’s kids and grandkids find comfort knowing he is dancing in Heaven with his beloved wife, Evelyn and fishing with his grandsons Matt and Blake.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; his parents; grandsons Blake Burrough and Matt Lehmkuhl; and a niece and nephew, Terri and Rex Spakes.
Survivors include his children, Mike Burrough and wife Deborah, Ronnie Burrough and wife Sandra, all of Rockdale; Keith Burrough and wife Angela of Groesbeck, Diana Gerren and husband Mike of Rockdale.
