Barbara Gilliland
MILANO—Barbara Gilliland of Milano died peacefully on Aug. 8, 2024, surrounded by her loving daughters and their families. She was 91 years old.
Our precious mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother is now with Jesus, her husband, and many other loved ones that have gone before her.
Hazel Stewart Hartley gave birth to Barbara Ann on Jan. 10, 1933. Her father, John Howard Hartley had passed away 4 months before she was born.
Barbara married the love of her life, Wm. Henry Gilliland, better known as Buck, on Jan. 29, 1950. They made their home in Fort Worth and raised their three daughters there.
In 1980, Barbara and Buck moved back to Milano to the country life they loved.
There are many things we admire about Barbara. Her cooking was the best. No one went away hungry from their home. Sewing and crocheting were two things she excelled at. For fun she enjoyed reading and working puzzle books.
Barbara was a caregiver to several “old folks” in our family. She was strong mentally and physically.
Most of all we are thankful for the love, nurturing and experiences Mother and Daddy gave us and our children and grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister and brother-in-law, Violet and Jimmie Haddox; and her son-in-law, Scott Avery.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Beverly Frantz and husband Bruce, Kathy Avery, Sherri Brantley and husband Mark; grandchildren Holly and Nathan Green, Michelle and Rodney Barcak, Billy and Chris Dodson, Samuel Hall, Tina Avery, Melissa and J.R. Hurt, Daniel and Jessica Avery, Cyler and Meagan Brantley; great-grandchildren Isaac, Anne, Grace, Madison and Colt, Milena, Cady, Jaxson, Brooks, Malayya, Bucky Boy, Alyssa, Tanner and Shelia, Hunter, Eliza Beth, Cutter and Ryker; great-great-grandchildren, Josie and Hazel; special friend and caregiver, Marie Deary, who made this journey with us; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that she loved.
The visitation was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, at Liberty Community Church near Milano and continued until the service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Roy Dillard officiating. Burial was at Liberty Cemetery, followed by lunch in the fellowship hall.
