Billie Jean Kornegay
Billie Jean Kornegay, 90, of Fort Worth, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 7, 2023.
She was born to Miles Edward “Ed” McCoy and Opal Beatrice Hillen McCoy on Nov. 20, 1932, in Rockdale.
She graduated f rom Rockdale High School in 1949 and attended Southwest Texas State at San Marcos.
She married Curtis Dean Kornegay on Aug. 14, 1953, and they raised three children together in Fort Worth.
She was a devoted full time mom, a Boy Scout den mother, and operated a preschool daycare in her home for many years, where she was known fondly as “Miss Billie.”
The embodiment of charity itself; she loved and gave deeply from her soul. Everyone who knew her was blessed. She laughed off the rainy days and was often the secret orchestrator of the sunny ones in the lives of those closest to her.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and her cats Pepper and Phil.
She leaves as her legacy children Eddy Kornegay and Kathy (Ken) Chruscielski; grandchildren Curtis “Trey” Kornegay III, Rachel (Jonathan) Ladner, Jessie (Matt) Ziemba, Daniel Chruscielski; and great-grandson Arthur Ladner; also, many cousins, friends and relatives.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Curtis Kornegay Junior, and grandson Wesley Maner.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 19, at Arborlawn UMC in Fort Worth.
A celebration-of-life potluck dinner will be held at 12-noon Sunday, June 25, at Forest Grove Christian Church in Rockdale.

She will be laid to rest with her husband at Forest Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Silcox Animal Care & Adoption Center of Fort Worth.
