Blackshear

Mary Jane Blackshear, 81, of Pflugerville died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, at Seton Williamson County Hospital.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale with Pastor Robert Besser of Wesley United Methodist Church of Beaumont officiating.

Mrs. Blackshear was born in Rockdale on Oct. 12, 1937, to Charlie Bradley and Maggie (Travis) Gohman.

She lived in Pflugerville the past 14 years and was formerly of Cedar Hill and Houston.

Mrs. Blackshear was a member of the National Honor Society in Houston.

On July 27, 1956, she married Joe Howard Blackshear in Houston.

Mrs. Blackshear was an accountant for 40 years and then went into customer relations with Southwest Airlines for 10 years.

She has also lived in Washington State, Florida, California and Japan. She enjoyed teaching English in Japan and working with and teaching the Japanese.

Mrs. Blackshear also collected rocks and was involved in genealogy.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charlie Bradley Gohman; her mother, Maggie Travis Gohman Benson; her stepfather, Walter Benson; a brother, Roger Gohman; and a sister, Helen Cumbie.

Survivors are her husband, Joe H. Blackshear of Pflugerville; a son, Glenn Blackshear of Spokane, Washington; two daughters, Judy Blackshear of Austin, Teri Johnson of Con-roe; six grandchildren, Theodore Morris, Lydia Edgerton, Jason Blackshear, Rachel Blackshear, Catherine Martin and Christopher Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Bayleigh, Nataleigh, Ava and Oliver; a sister, Marie Schlottman of Hearne; and a stepsister, Barbara Hargrave of Houston.
