Burrough
Mrs. Burrough
Evelyn Louise Shaver Burrough was born on Jan. 24, 1941, to William (Bill) and Loretta (Cox) Shaver. Growing up in Davilla, Evelyn was the youngest of three girls. Evelyn adored he r parents and learned her work ethic from her hardworking mother.
Evelyn grew up in a family that had little money but lots of love. As Evelyn grew into a young woman, she worked hard to have the finer things in life and lots of love in her home.
On April 17, 1954, Evelyn married her one true love, Frank Burrough Jr. To this union of more than 69 years, four children were born—Mike, Ronnie, Keith and Diana.
Evelyn and Jr. spent most of their married life in Rockdale. Jr. always said he married a young woman thinking he would train her, but instead, this fiesty young woman trained him.
Evelyn took immense pride in her children always wanting nothing but the best for them. As the mother of boys, they were always flawlessly dressed with matching outfits and haircuts. When she finally got her little girl, she was ecstatic and of course that little girl was picture perfect in her rows of lace and bows.
As her children grew up, Evelyn always had the upper hand. Somehow she always knew what her kids were up to, when they were doing things they shouldn’t or going to places they shouldn’t go.
Aside from her children, Evelyn took pride in maintaining an immaculate home. Her house could match the pictures from any magazine. People often said her floors were so clean you could eat off them.
Evelyn had many talents. She loved sewing and crocheting. She was an excellent cook and kept her freezer full of delicious goodies. If you lost a loved one, had surgery or suffered any tragedy, Evelyn was there to share, offering a delicious meal at a moments notice.
During football season, many of her sons and grandsons along with their friends often shared a pre-game meal Evelyn had prepared just for them.
Because Evelyn was a nurturer, her home was often a safe haven to her children’s friends where she offered love and always a little motherly advice.
Evelyn was an avid bowler, playing in a women’s league for many years. She served on the Bereavement Committee at both Meadowbrook Baptist Church and San Gabriel Christian Church.
She worked for many years at Midway Grocery where she kept the store just as clean as she did her house.
She had quite the knack for floral design using that talent for many years while working at Whiteley’s Florist, Family Flowers, Rose’s Flower Gallery and Glass Florist.
In the later years, she was often know as “the perfume lady” because of her side business selling perfume. This gave Evelyn an opportunity to get out of the house and make a little mad money because we all know how much she loved to shop. She had matching shoes for every outfit along with coordinating jewelry.
For her entire life, Evelyn was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For the past six months, she had been a resident at Rockdale Estates & Rehabilitation.
She left this earth on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023.
Her family finds comfort knowing she is healed, reunited in heaven with her beloved mother and daddy and sweet grandson, Blake.
