Mrs. Calhoun
Graveside services were held Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Minerva Cemetery.
Mickey was preceded in death by two husbands, Henry Patillo and W. O. “Cal” Calhoun; her parents, Julia (Terry) and Lunsford James Wheeless; three siblings, Lucille Ann Knowles, Helen Ruth Wheeless, James Terry Wheeless; as well as numerous other family members.
The second child of Julia (Terry) and Lunsford James “Buck” Wheeless, Mickey never treated anyone as a stranger, enthusiastically welcoming them into her world.
For 30 years, Mickey worked for Dow Chemical in Freeport, adapting her shorthand and typing skills to the emerging technologies of the 21st century.
After her marriage to Henry Patillo, she settled on property in Milam County that had been owned by her grandfather W. S. “Stone” Terry and remained there until her death.
On Feb. 2, 1979, Mickey married Cal and, for the next 20 years, enjoyed traveling the world, always open to new adventures that Cal would propose. When Cal was no longer able to travel any more, she would participate in the activities of his nursing facility, baking cakes and creating opportunities for social interactions.
After Cal’s death, Mickey continued traveling the continental United States.
A devout Christian, Mickey was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Rockdale and actively participated in its worship services and mission outreach.
In lieu of flowers, she requested that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
