Cardwell
Lyngle Leroy “Bill” Cardwell, 90, a life long resident of Rockdale, died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022, at his home.
Graveside services with military honors were held Tuesday, Nov. 15, at Salty Cemetery near Thorndale.
Mr. Cardwell was born Sept. 24, 1932 in Rockdale to R.M. “Mack” and Lula Lee (Tucker) Cardwell.
He served in the U.S. Navy from December 1952 to November 1956, serving on the USS Walker.
Mr. Cardwell was a member of Rockdale VFW Post 6525.
On Dec. 18, 1979, he married Veronica Guzner in Cameron.
He worked as a millwright with Alcoa for 26 years, retiring in 1994.
Mr. Cardwell loved the mountains of Colorado, fishing, hiking, skiing, polka dancing, four-wheeling, RVing, blue grass music, being around family and hanging out with the McDonald’s coffee crew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack Cardwell and Lula Lee Tucker; a brother, Dr. Wallace H. Cardwell and wife Ardeth; a sister, Edith Faye Brown and husband Milton; and a brother-in-law, Clyde E. Luetge.
Survivors are his wife, Veronica Cardwell of Rockdale; his sons, Leroy Cardwell and Tracy Schrimpf of Rockdale, Chris Moffett and Jessie Baggerly of Sharp, Troy Moffett and wife Belinda of Rockdale; a sister, Shirley Cardwell Luetge of Thorndale; and two grandchildren, Bailey and Trever; also, a great-grandchild.
