Carol L. Newman, 71, of Milano died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023, in Bryan.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with a gathering following the service at Milano Civic Center.
Mrs. Newman was born Oct. 10, 1951, to Robert B. and Linda Lee (Vaughn) Holt in San Antonio.
On Sept. 5, 1970, she married Mark Newman in San Antonio.
She began her career with the U.S. Civil Service at Kelly Field in the early 80s. She transferred to Fort Hood in 1999 and was there until she retired in 2013 with 30 years of civil service.
Mrs. Newman loved her family and spending time with them. She was very patriotic and loved decorating for all seasons.
She was a member of Milano Evening Lion’s Club, Order of the Eastern Star in Caldwell and San Antonio, and the Crown Garden Club in Rockdale.
Mrs. Newman was dedicated to the church, serving Milano Methodist Church as a lay speaker, Sunday school teacher and mentor.
She also served on the Milano City Council for close to 20 years.
Mrs. Newman was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Linda Holt; and parents-in-law, Carl and Martha Newman.
Survivors are her husband, Mark Newman of Milano; a son, Jason Newman and wife Susan of Harlingen; a daughter, Rebecca Hobson and husband Brad of Milano; two sisters, Jane McDonald and husband Jack of Jourdanton, Patsy Beckett and husband Donnie of New Braunfels; a brother-inlaw, Greg Newman and wife Lynne of McDade; and her grandchildren, Ryan Newman, Taylor Newman, Abigail Olson, Westen Hobson, Easten Hobson and Braden Hobson; also, numerous nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
