Lillian Irene Cast, age 94, of Thorndale passed away early Thursday morning, Dec. 2, 2021, in Baylor Scott & White Hospital.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale with Pastor Craig Schinnerer and Pastor Wilburn Michalk officiating. Interment followed at St. Paul Cemetery in Thorndale.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Irene was born Sept. 6, 1927, at home on the family farm in Thorndale to Paul Gerhard and Clara Theresia (Handrick) Waiser.

She was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she was baptized on Sept. 11, 1927, and confirmed on March 17, 1940. Her confirmation verse was 1 Timothy 6:12. She also served as Sunday school secretary for many years.

On June 17, 1956, she and Melvin H. Cast were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church and to this union their daughter Lori was born.

Irene was very talented in baking, handwork and helping her community. She was an amazing seamstress, sewing for the public in her early years and sewing all of her clothes, Melvin’s shirts and all of Lori’s clothes until Lori reached junior high school and blue jeans and t-shirts became the basic fashion.

Irene also enjoyed yardwork and crocheting. She made the very best meringue pies and Italian cream cakes. She loved to donate her crocheted afghans and meringue pies to numerous benefits in and around the Thorndale area.

She was a Thorndale Ex-Student member and loved making decorations and decorating the hall for the homecoming each year. Irene was a member of

Irene was a member of Thorndale Senior Citizens and past active member, then honorary member, of Thorndale Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was preceded in

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Waiser on March 31, 1954, and Clara Waiser on May 5, 1972; her husband, Melvin Cast on Jan. 21, 2009; and two brothers, Clarence Leroy Waiser on Dec. 6, 1988, and Victor Waiser on June 19, 2012. Surviving is her daughter, Lori Cast Towery and husband Darell of Thorndale; two granddaughters, Ashleigh Towery Moehling and husband Michael of Thorndale, Melanie Towery Kunkel and husband Michael of Gatesville; four great-grandchildren, Haleigh Jo Moehling and Marleigh Kate Moehling of Thorndale, Klein Paul Kunkel and Claire Elizabeth Kunkel of Gatesville; two sisters-in-law, Adeline Waiser and Mildred Waiser; a special friend and caregiver, Susan Drabek; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Michael Moehling, Michael Kunkel, Raymond Waiser, Douglas Waiser, David Waiser and Eric Melde.
