Davenport
Charles “Chuck” Eugene Davenport of Katy died peacefully at his home on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019. He had just turned 89 and died of natural causes.
The family will honor his wishes for no funeral or memorial service, and instead a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Mr. Davenport was born in Rockdale on Aug. 13, 1930.
He attended Rockdale High School.
He married Lois Maddox on Dec. 30, 1969, and they were married just short of 50 years.
Mr. Davenport served in the U.S. Armed Forces from 1953 to 1958 during the Korean War. First in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Rogers, then in the U.S. Air Force.
He worked for the Pearl Brewery Co. for 34 years from 1959 to 1993.
Mr. Davenport enjoyed ranching, trail rides and volunteering in local rodeo’s near wherever he resided.
He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason of 50 years, being raised in the Davy Crockett Lodge No. 1225 of San Antonio in 1970. He was also actively involved as a Shriner and contributed to numerous charities, including Shriners Hospital for Children and the Scottish Right Hospital.
Mr. Davenport was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Emmitt Davenport; his mother, Willard Rae Carver; his stepfather, Harvey Carver; a brother, Weldon Dean “Spanky” Davenport; and a son, Curtis Davenport.
Survivors are his wife Lois Davenport of Katy; three stepchildren, Judith Schlaack of McKinney (and spouse Ted), Steven Wheeler and Susan Powell, both of Houston; a brother, Larry Davenport of Arizona; a sister, Wilma Jean Fritz of Den-ton; six grandchildren, Jennie Rose (spouse Marcus), Brian Wheeler, Ashton Powell (spouse Kamila), Stephanie Schlaack, Kelsey Wheeler and Max McFerrin; a great-grandchild, Alyssa Rae Rose; a nephew, Arthur Lee Davenport of California; and a niece, Paula Kardurka of Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Scottish Rite Hospital or the Shriners Hospital for Children.
