Adelfa Ana Davis, a beloved and devoted soul, has left us with a legacy that will forever be etched in our hear ts. She dedicated her life to serving others, guided by her unwave r ing f a it h and compassionate spiri t . To d a y, we gather to celebrate the extraordinary journey of a remarkable woman who touched countless lives and spread love wherever she went.
Adelfa was born on Nov. 5, 1945, in the small town of Thorndale. From a young age, she exemplified kindness and empathy, always ready to lend a helping hand.
Adelfa’s schooling years were marked by her involvement in the band at Thorndale High School, where her passion for music flourished.
After graduating in 1964, she pursued higher education at Our Lady of The Lake College in San Antonio. In pursuit of her true calling, Adelfa graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and a degree in theology.
Adelfa’s journey as a pastor spanned over five decades, leaving an indelible impact on countless souls seeking soul and guidance. Starting as a photocopier for Xerox, Adelfa become a pastor after completing her studies.
In Rockdale, she laid the foundation for the “New Life in Christ” community Christian school and proudly served as its dedicated manager for 15 years. Her commitment to nurturing minds and hearts was unparalleled.
Not even retinitis pigmentosa could deter Adelfa’s devotion to reading the Bible. She cherished its teachings until her sight began to evade her. However, true to her resilient nature, she found solace through the support of her sisters who lovingly read books aloud to her.
Adelfa possessed a humble spirit but always sought to maintain her appearance as an expression of self-care.
Books held special signifi cance in Adelfa’s life—so much so that if you were fortunate enough to share a part of her journey, she would have gifted you a book to help you navigate life’s challenges.
Her generosity extended beyond this, as evidenced by her proudest accomplishment of purchasing 14 cemetery lots for those in need. Adelfa believed that everyone deserved a dignified resting place, irrespective of their means.
Adelfa’s gentle and kind demeanor was akin to a beacon of hope for those in need. She had a servant’s heart that reverberated with grace and love. Opening the doors to any stray soul, she exemplified the teachings she held dear. There was no measure to which Adelfa wouldn’t go to support and uplift others. The word “no” simply did not exist in her vocabulary.
The judges of Milam County would assign those in need to her services for counseling and yet she never charged them.
In 2019, adversity knocked at Adelfa’s door when she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Undeterred, she faced this challenge headon, undergoing surgeries and fighting valiantly against the debilitating effects of the disease. Sadly, on Nov. 19, 2023, the toll it took on her became too great, and Adelfa peacefully passed away in Temple.
Adelfa was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Placido Galban and Marguerite Galban; her loving husband of 20 years, William E. Davis; and five brothers, Placido Galban III, Lawrence Galban, Ferdinand Galban, Timothy Galban, and Wayne Galban.
Though we mourn their absence alongside Adelfa’s departure from our lives, we remain grateful for the impact they had on her journey.
Adelfa is survived by her devoted brother, Albert Lionel “Buddy” Galban and his wife, Hope Galban; two cherished sisters, Martha Elizabeth Guidry and her husband, Melvin, Phyllis Green and her husband, Jack; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins whose lives have been enriched by Adelfa’s presence.
Her memory will forever be cherished in their hearts, as well as in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Adelfa’s beloved stray dog, Nathaniel, was a faithful companion throughout her life. Their bond exemplified the unconditional love she showered upon all living creatures—a true testament to her beautiful soul.
Adelfa Ana Davis gifted us with an unwavering devotion to spreading love, compassion, and light in a world that often felt dark. Her legacy will live on through the lives she touched and the inspiration she imparted.
As we bid farewell to our dear Adelfa, let us carry her spirit within us and continue her mission of serving others with kindness, grace, and boundless love.
Rest peacefully, dear Adelfa Ana Davis. Your journey on earth may have ended, but your beautiful spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
Adelfa donated her body to medical science and a memorial service was to be held at a later date.
