Dorothy Ann Peschke Herzer

Dorothy Ann Peschke Herzer, age 90, of Georgetown, formerly of Rockdale, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2024. She was a resident at Tiffin House Assisted Living and Memory Care in Georgetown, where she had lived for the past 7-1/2 years.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m.Saturday, April 6, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Elder Mark Richards officiating. Burial at McDade Cemetery in McDade will be at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 5, at the funeral home.

Dorothy was born Jan. 4, 1934, at home in Grassyville Community near Paige. Her parents were Louis Herman Peschke and Louise Bertha (Burgdorf) Peschke. S he i s the younger sister to her two brothers, Curtis and Calvin.

Dorothy and her family moved to the Mosebach place near Hills when she was two years old.

When Dorothy was in the seventh grade, the family moved to Manheim.

After completing high school, Dorothy lived in the nurse’s quarters while working at the Lee Memorial Hospital in Giddings. As a nurse’s aide she worked in the operating room and the obstetrics department, as well as bathing and caring for patients and babies in the nursery. One of her favorite memories was helping to deliver a set of twins at the hospital.

While working at the Lee Memorial Hospital, she met her future husband, Edgar, who swept her off her feet by taking her for a ride on his motorcycle. After a few short years of dating, Dorothy married Edgar Louis “Bob” Herzer on Sept. 8, 1956, in Giddings. Dorothy and Edgar lived in Rockdale, where they raised their two children, Cynthia and Ronnie.

In addition to being a wife and mother, Dorothy was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Rockdale.

In 2016, Dorothy and Edgar moved to Tiffin House in Georgetown. They were married 62 years until his passing in November 2018. Dorothy continued to be lovingly cared for at Tiffin House.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar, and her brothers, Curtis Louis Peschke and Calvin Gilbert Peschke.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Kenneth Koscielniak; her son and daughterin- law, Ronnie and Amy Herzer; and her grandchildren, Sarah Herzer and Dylan Herzer; as well as several nieces and nephews.
