Mrs. Muston passed peacefully in her sleep, on Saturday, Feb. 8, in Ganado at Grow in Grace Senior Living. The family expresses gratitude for their compassionate care for our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Thank you for the love you gave her these last few years, and for giving us regular peeks at her daily shenanigans.

She enjoyed watching the squirrels and birds. She loved telling the workers all about her family and past life experiences. Evelyn loved to share her faith with not only the employees but also with the residents. Her unwavering faith was evident when she would say “in God’s will.”

A longtime Rockdale resident, Evelyn was born Sept. 11, 1927, south of Thorndale as the middle child of three to Boyd Kenneth and Glennie Nora Catchings.

She received her education at Fairview School, then Connelly, and graduated from Thorndale High School in 1945.

She married Frank Muston on Nov. 23, 1946, and they shared a wonderful 62 years before his passing.

Evelyn was a devoted homemaker, dedicating her time to raising their six children, sewing and assisting family members as the “chauffeur” whenever needed.

She also worked for several years as the dietary supervisor for Manor Oaks Nursing Home because of her love of cooking. Whether she was preparing meals for her family or the residents at the nursing home, she took pride in making sure everyone was well-fed and cared for.

Her kindness and dedication extended beyond her household, as she was always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends and neighbors in need.

She and Frank made a great team, with Frank tending to his beloved garden and Evelyn preserving the harvest by canning fresh vegetables to enjoy throughout the year. Their home was always stocked with jars of homegrown goodness, a testament to their hard work and love for providing for their family.

Evelyn’s warmth and generosity left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Evelyn’s family enjoyed raiding her kitchen late at night, making the secret brownie recipe that was taped on the kitchen cabinet.

Her home was always a place to gather to enjoy family time, games, and nine o’clock ice cream time. The grandkids were free to skate up and down the hall and play wall ball against the garage, making her home a place filled with laughter, love and cherished memories.

She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, spending hours reading books, working on word searches, and watching the birds feast at the homemade feeder outside her front door. These quiet moments brought her peace, just as much as the lively chaos of a house full of family.

Mrs. Muston was preceded in death by her parents, brother J B Catchings, sister Vivian Dally, brother-inlaw Walter Dally, sons-in-law Michael Sartwell and Scott Troutman, and daughter-inlaw Sherry Muston.

Survivors are her children, Linda Troutman of Tyler, Sue Schick and husband Mike of Morse, Billy Muston of Giddings, James Muston of Paris, Nora Sartwell of Orlando, FL, and Donna Stewart and husband Danny of Edna; nine grandchildren, Pam Frost (Duncan), Markus Schick (Amy), Michelle Davisson (Codi), Carrie Shannon (Sam), Brian Muston (Michelle), Shelly Muston, Valerie Morretta (Tony), Christopher Sartwell (Sarah), Debra Matocha (Johnathan); 13 great-grandchildren, Mikala Schick, Cooper Schick, Kady McCubbin, Alaina Thomas, Summit Muston, Ariana, Aylssa and Mia Moretta, Carson and Carter Sartwell, and Paislea, Brylea, and Tinslea Matocha.
