Herman Louis Kocian

Herman Louis Kocian, 92, of Rockdale passed away peacefully on Dec. 31, 2024, at his home in Rockdale.

Herman was born Aug. 18, 1932, in McClennen County to Jerry and Bertha (Broz) Kocian.

He was united in marriage on Oct. 27, 1962, to Billie (Phillip) in Bremond.

Herman served his country honorably in the United States Army as a demolition expert from 1953 to 1958 and achieved the rank of private first class. He was a veteran of the Korean War.

Herman was a devoted family man and an active member of his community. He was a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, having founded a chapter in February of 1978.

He worked at Alcoa in the potlining department for 35 years.

He was a devoted grandfather to three grandchildren— Andrew, Matthew, and Clarice. They were his pride and joy. He witnessed many firsts of his grandchildren, such as first steps.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Bertha Kocian; brothers Adolph Kocian, Victor Kocian, Jerome Kocian and Johnny Kocian; and sister Agnes Wilgonowski.

Herman is survived by his daughters, Debra Key of Rockdale, Sharon Kocian of Rockdale; sons Richard (Dena) Kocian of Lexington, Larry (Cherie) Kocian of Rockdale; brother Bill Kocian of Liberty;sisters Marie Bielamowicz of Bremond, Betty Jane Kocian of Bremond and Lilly Rodriguez of Marlin; grandchildren Andrew Kocian (Alyssa) of Kyle, Matthew Kocian of Rockdale and Clarice Kocian of Rockdale.

Serving as pallbearers were Andrew Kocian, Alyssa Kocian, Matthew Kocian, Clarice Kocian, Larry Kocian, Richard Kocian.

A visitation, with Rosary, was held Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, Jan. 6, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale.
