Jack was born on Oct. 7, 1928, in San Saba County to Howard Vernon “Dick” and Elois (Gunter) Clark.

He graduated from San Saba High School in 1946, participating is several sport activities. He also attended Tarleton State for a year.

On Oct. 25, 1947, he married his high school sweetheart, Woodie Lavon Taylor, and they moved to Bryan, where he was employed with Southwester State Telephone Co. climbing telephone poles.

In 1949 he moved to Thorndale, still working with the same company.

On Nov. 17, 1949, Jack and Lavon’s son, Richard Clift Clark, was born in San Saba and Jack always tells he was supposed to be deer hunting the day Clift was born but he did wait until the next day. In 1972, they gained a daughterin- law Suzanne Gilleland, and then he hoped to start having grandchildren, which he did get three grandsons.

They finally settled in Rockdale, where he lived the rest of his life with his beautiful bride and son.

In 1952 he was hired on with Alcoa as a brick mason and worked 26 years there until his retirement in 1978 with a medical retirement.

After a short retirement period, he and Lavon worked in real estate and in 1979 he went to work at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home for Clyde Jones and worked 13 years until his second retirement in 1991.

Jack and his family were members of Murray St. Church of Christ in Rockdale, where he served as deacon, elder and song leader at various times. He loved their Church and loved serving the Lord.

Jack loved raising cattle, but his most-loved hobby was deer hunting, which he did at a beloved childhood friends ranch for years, and fishing with his son and special childhood friends and work and church friends. But the most special times he went with his three loved grandsons, they were a sparkle in his eye.

Jack loved looking into his family history and he acquired several volumes of information and he always said grandkids give me a cause to look forward to the Clark name being around for a long time.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lavon Clark; parents Dick and Elois Clark; sister Nell Collier; and brother Tommie Joe Clark.

Jack is survived by his son, Clift Clark and wife Suzanne; grandsons Trey Clark and fiancé Rachael, Chad Clark and wife Kell, Cody Clark and wife Tami; great-grandchildren Hunter, Carlee Jack, J.T., Easton, Case, Cal and Cope; also his sister, Donnie Holland.

Serving as his pallbearer will be his grandsons and great-grandchildren.
