Lamar Straub Closs Jr

Lamar Straub Closs Jr. of Brenham passed away June 20, 2023, at the age of 80 years old.

L a m a r , fondly known as “Bear,” was born in Pasadena, Texas, on Nov. 13, 1942, (which was on a Friday) to Lamar and Wanda Hawkins Closs. He was their only child.

Lamar had a passion for Dodge diesel trucks, tractor pulls, any sport on TV and attending any sporting event to support his grandkids.

Lamar went to work at Alcoa in Rockdale in 1968 and retired in 2006 after 38 years of continuous service. Lamar always had a story to tell and enjoyed telling of his many adventures throughout his days. He remembered every detail and included each and every one of them.

Lamar met the love of his life, Jeannine, in Rockdale. They were married Nov. 1, 1980, and shared their lives for 42 beautiful years.

Lamar was preceded in death by his parents, Lamar and Wanda Hawkins Closs; his beloved uncle, Boots Hawkins Closs Sr.; his stepson, Billy Sager; and his grandson, Larry Irvin.

He is survived by his wife Jeannine; his children, Teresa Closs, Carla Lobdell and husband Boe, Steven Closs Sr. and Jana Closs; his stepchildren, Lauri Ross and husband Jeff, Bobby Sager, Ginger Richter and husband Terry; also, 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, June 24.
