Matula

Charles Joseph Matula Jr., 81, of Rockdale, formerly of Cameron, died Saturday, June 4, 2022, at his home in Rockdale.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mr. Matula, known by many as “Mat” or “Charlie,” was born on March 15, 1941, to Charles Joseph Matula Sr. and Lois Mary (Provasek) Matula in Cameron.

He graduated from Yoe High School in Cameron.

Mr. Matula served in the U.S. Navy and, while there, he started his electrical career.

After leaving the Navy, he attended Tarrant County Junior College.

He married Judith Spencer of Fort Worth on March 15, 1970.

Mr. Matula worked as the Chief Electrician of General Dynamics in Fort Worth and later worked as an electrical supervisor at Alcoa in Rockdale for 34 years until his retirement in 2003. He was also the owner of Matula Electric for many years.

Mr. Matula was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rockdale, United States Submarine Veterans Organization and the American Legion.

In addition to the love for his family, he greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on his farm raising cattle.

He will be remembered for his quick-witted humor, kindness and technical abilities.

Mr. Matula loved his three Yorkies more than life itself. He will be greatly missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Helen Moore of Belton; and his two Yorkies, Jaycee and Spanky.

Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Judith Matula of Rockdale; his children, Charles Todd Matula and husband Hunter Fox of Los Angeles, Hunter Matula of Rockdale, Carolyn Matula of Arcadia, Lisa Kosub and boyfriend Kevin Marshburn of Round Rock; his grandchildren, Dustin Kelie of Covina, Carsyn Denney of Long Beach; a sister, Rosemary Mondrick of Temple; his Yorkie dog, Bentley, and granddog, Bindi.
