Mattie Pearl McBride, 91, of Rockdale died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at New Hope Baptist Church in Rockdale with Pastor Kenneth Morris officiating. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale.
Visitation is set for 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.
Mrs. McBride was born to the late Ferd Reed and Tennie Wells on Jan. 21, 1931, in Sharp. Of 13 children, she was the “baby” and last surviving Reed.
She was a sweet and kind woman who cared deeply for her family and friends. She was also known as “Mommo,” “Ain’t Mat,” “Mat” and “Mattie,” just to name a few.
Mrs. McBride accepted Christ at an early age and was a long-standing member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church for over 70 years. She served faithfully on the Usher Board and Mission 1 and 2. She was a true believer of God.
She raised her family in truth, love, prayer and taught them to trust God no matter what the problem was. She attended school in

She married Emmet James McBride Sr. on Jan. 10, 1948. To this union were 10 children, with four preceding her in death—Emmett James McBride Jr., Phyllis Lee McBride-Smith, Lydia Laverne Farwell-McBride, and Patricia McBride.
She was also preceded in death by two grandchildren.
Survivors are four daughters and two sons, Kay McBride, Pearlie McBride, Stephanie McBride, Earnest McBride and John McBride, all of Rockdale, and Juanita Howell of Harker Heights; also, 29 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, 21 great-great-grandchildren with 2 on the way, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
