Melcher

Hildegard Irene (Domann) Melcher, 98, of Rockdale died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020.

A private graveside service was held on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at IOOF Cemetery with Pastor Gary Veit of Peace Lutheran Church officiating.

Mrs. Melcher was born Dec. 27, 1921, in Fedor, a small farming community in Lee County, to Paul Gerhard Domann and Hulda Selma (Urban) Domann.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor and she received her primary education at Trinity Lutheran School in Fedor.

On April 23, 1944, she married Richard G. Melcher of Fedor at Trinity Lutheran Church.

They moved to Rockdale in August 1952.

The Melcher family became members of Peace Lutheran Church that same year.

Mrs. Melcher was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 63 years; three brothers, Alvin, Herbert and Monroe; and two sisters, Elsa and Ella.

Survivors are five children, Bob and wife Donna, Jim and wife Judy, Peggy and husband Earl, Richard W., and Teresa and her partner Maurice; 13 grandchildren, Stacey and husband Gene, Jennifer, Robin and husband Keith, Laura and husband Reg, Jimmy and wife Sara, Erica and husband David, Jon and wife Victoria, Angi and husband Rafael, Erin and husband Nathan, Joseph and wife Becky, Emily and husband Landon, Diana and husband Jared, Callie and husband Kyle; and a sister, Marie Handrick; also, 24 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
