Mercer

Funeral services for James Walton Mercer, 78, of Buckholts were held Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale, with Chaplain Bruce Mercer officiating. Burial followed in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

Mr. Mercer was born April 10, 1941, in Lynn Haven, Florida, to Mamie and Reed Mercer.

He died Saturday, May

25.

He married Wanda Jones Mercer on Nov. 2, 1969, in Alabama.

They made their life in Rockdale, supporting their Tigers and the community.

Mr. Mercer worked for Pittsburg Des Moines Steel for 45 years before retiring to a farm and ranch lifestyle. He traveled and worked all over this hemisphere.

He enjoyed fishing.

Mr. Mercer was preceded in death by his parents and wife Wanda.

Survivors are his children, Sherry Culp Easley and husband Rick, Sid Culp and Diane, and Chris Mercer; a brother, Charles Mercer; and three grandchildren, Philip Addicks, Jessica Addicks Wadlington and Jason Michael Culp; also, six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Kenny McCoy, Justin Fatheree, Philip Addicks, Charles Alford, Frank Rubio and Ward Roddam.

Honorary pallbearers were the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department and Keith Johnson.
