Almond “Billy” Lee Moultrie Jr., 71 of Austin, formerly of Rockdale, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2019, at his daughter’s home in Pflugerville.
Services are set for 12-noon (with a viewing at 11 a.m.) Saturday, Oct. 19, at New Hope Baptist Church in Rockdale with Pastor Kenneth Morris officiating and Rev. Sylvester E. Chase Jr. providing the eulogy. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale
Mr. Moultrie was born Dec. 13, 1947, in Rockdale to Zelma Lee (McDonald) and Almond Lee Moultrie Sr.
He was a high school athlete and a 1966 graduate of Rock-dale High School.
After high school, he attended St. Phillips in San Antonio, and went on to later attend Huston-Tillotson.
Mr. Moultrie was an entrepreneur, ran a game room, a photography business, was a part-owner of a store, bought and sold cars, and ran other various businesses.
He enjoyed all kinds of sports and would drive near or far to support his children, nieces and nephews, or to just root for the home team. Frequently he could be found with a camera in his hand and he was lovingly nicknamed “Camera Man.”
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, William P. Moultrie, Zettie L. Walton and Willie G. Smith; and two sisters, Ruthie T. Crawford and Charles Etta Webb.
Surviving are his children, Billie Shenea Edison and husband Terrell, Zelma Wade, Rodrick Cannon and wife Ayako, Lamont Almond Lee Moultrie and wife Tiaira Reed-Moultrie, all of Pflugerville, Horace Wade of Karnes City, Latriesha Wade-Easley and husband Robert of Manor, Misha Davis of Abilene; and a sister, Elma Lee Jackson Moultrie of Austin; also, 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
