Pounders
Sessions “Teddy Bear” Pounders, 82 of Rockdale died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, at his home.
Funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 5, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Minister Jason Hollinger of Murray Street Church of Christ officiating. Burial was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.
Mr. Pounders was born March 16, 1936, in Tangle-wood, a twin son of William Rufus Oscar and Martha Willamina (Lorenz) Pounders.
He attended school at Tanglewood Elementary and graduated from Lexington High School.
Mr. Pounders served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961.
On July 8, 1960, he married Sondra Eileen Ahrendt at Murray Street Church of Christ in Rock-dale.
Mr. Pounders was owner and operator of Pounders Wrecker Service for 50 years, retiring in 2016. He had also worked at Alcoa’s Rockdale Operations over 34 years, having retired in 1998.
Mr. Pounders was a member of Murray Street Church of Christ.
He served as a Little League board member and had coached for many years.
He was an officer with the Rockdale Federal Credit Union.
Mr. Pounders enjoyed river fishing and his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Martha Elizabeth Pounders; and his twin brother, Claude Barkley Pounders.
Survivors are his wife, Sondra Pounders of Rockdale; two sons, Clyde Pounders and wife Whitney, Chris Pounders and Joan Hess, all of Rockdale; six grandchildren, Colt, Tyler, Tate, Will, Wyatt and Piper Pounders, all of Rockdale; and his special angels, Stacey Blythe, Shellie Jones and Brent Blythe.
Pallbearers were Colt Pounders, Tyler Pounders, Tate Pounders, Will Pounders, Wyatt Pounders, Piper Pounders, Jimmy Pounders, Freddy Pounders and Benny Lee Pounders.
Honorary pallbearers were Mike Brown, Elbert Page, Allen Pratt, Gary Jackson, L.B. Kubiak, Don Wardlow and Calvin Whiteley.
