Virginia Praesel, 87, of Rockdale passed away on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2022, at her home in Rockdale.
A funera l service will be held at 11 a. m. Friday, Dec. 9, at Forest Grove Christian Church in the Forest Grove community.
A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.
She was born on Dec. 24, 1934, to Frank Edward and Merle Willene (Neely) McKinney in Smiley.
She graduated from Smiley High School.
On June 28, 1957, she married A.G. Gus “Sonny” Praesel in Cuero. They spent 61 years together until his death on Dec. 2, 2018.
Virgina was a homemaker while her children were home. In 1987, she became co-owner of Deli Subs & Salads. She retired in 2003 after 15 years.
She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, where she served as secretary and children’s program director.
Virginia was active in Young Homemakers of America, New Salem Home Demonstration Club.
She was an avid bowler. She enjoyed gardening with roses as her passion.
Virginia was preceded in death by parents Frank and Merle McKinney, husband A.G. “Sonny” Praesel, grandson Arthur Scott, sister Marjorie Ruth Cowan and brother James William “Dubbie” McKinney.
Survivors are her sons, Roger Praesel and wife Pam, and Arthur Gus Praesel Jr. and wife Tina; her daughters, Yvonne Praesel, Evada Cooper and husband Terry; and grandchildren Justin Praesel, Clay Praesel, Audria Tramel, Brandi Verrett, Adam Rocha, Sara Fuller, Stephanie Henson and Gina Minter; also, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Justin Praesel, Clay Praesel, Adam Rocha, Ronnie Verrett, Todd Henson and Corey Fuller.
Honorary pallbearers are Glenn Beck, Charles Alford and Daryl Stewart.
